I fear I may have to review your review. If your letter is anything to go by, your arguments generate more heat than light. Let's wait until we see how much of it the Musical Times, prints. Then, if I have to, I'll reply. Naturally.

   Meantime, consider this. It's possible to owe many of one's ideas to Freud without being a neo-Freudian. Two men may both be in Manchester; but one of them may be travelling to Liverpool and the other to York. The fact that they both happen to start in Manchester is not particularly important. What is important is to compare York with Liverpool.

   Doubtless you see what I'm driving at.
