Dear Alan,

   corrected proofs returned herewith. I'm looking forward to seeing a proof of the text.

   A few small points for your consideration; in the text, I imagine there's some reference made to the fact that it's a lecture or address to the R.M.A.? It's still clearly oral in style – not to say racy.

   In ex 6, isn't it better to have composer first then op no, eg Beethoven op 84; Schumann op 9?

The further evidence, on Schumann's reading of Klüber to which the text refers is due to appear (after three years!) in the November MT.
